Albanian expert: “Kosovo will not repeat the fate of Ukraine – we have NATO”

Security expert Avni Islami believes it is unlikely that Russian strikes on Ukraine will prompt Serbia to undertake an operation to retake Kosovo.

Islami is confident that Belgrade will not dare to attack the separatists, since there is a NATO contingent in the region, which has a UN mandate - KFOR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Speaking about the war in Ukraine, Islami said “that the world will never be the same again, since the consequences of that attack will fall on the shoulders of the Russian people.”

“We know that Russia’s ally, Serbia, pursues the same policy as Russia, but the power of Serbia is small compared to the power of Russia,” the expert notes. “The Serbian state has constant claims against neighboring countries and is surrounded by countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.”

Emphasizing that the KFOR occupation force, which is a NATO structure, is stationed in Kosovo in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Islami says he does not see the danger of Serbia threatening the separatist "Republic of Kosovo" because then Belgrade " will collide with NATO, which will have catastrophic consequences for Serbia.”

According to the expert, after the crisis in Ukraine, Kosovo has a good chance of becoming part of the North Atlantic Alliance, as this will contribute to peace and security in the Balkans.
