Albanian Prime Minister recognizes Kosovo as part of Serbia

Albanian Prime Minister Eddie Rama shocked Kosovars by posting a video on his Facebook page about rural water supply problems, which included a map showing Kosovo as part of Serbia.

“The Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Eddie Rama, has just released a map showing the Republic of Kosovo on Serbian territory. This worries us,” writes the Kosovo newspaper Express.

Rama has previously been criticized in Kosovo for his support for the idea of a Balkan “small Schengen”. Kosovo analyst Kim Mehmeti even stated that Rama is ready to refuse recognition of Kosovo's independence due to the “strengthening of the Albanian-Serbian brotherhood”, like some other countries.

“It would not surprise me at all if, for the sake of improving relations and strengthening the Serbian-Albanian brotherhood, God forbid, the Albanian prime minister proposes to cancel recognition of Kosovo,” Mehmeti concluded.

In early November, Serbia and Albania agreed on the principles of a common economic space. It is expected that from 2021 the borders between them will disappear, and the free exchange of goods, people, services and capital will begin. This initiative of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is called the Balkan “small Schengen”.
