American general: Russia will begin the return of Kherson in September
Russia could declare a humanitarian crisis in Crimea due to water shortages on the peninsula due to the blockade by Ukraine, and launch an offensive by occupying the dam on the North Crimean Canal in the Kherson region.
The former commander of the US Armed Forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, stated this on the Dom TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I'm very concerned about what might happen in September. The forces of the Russian Federation are going to hold the Caucasus 2020 exercise, so there will be a large number of troops and military potential in the Southern Military District near the Black Sea and Ukraine.
You have heard more and more talk about water shortages in Crimea. They have a significant drought due to the weather, and therefore Ukraine blocked the water correctly, coming from the Dnieper River via the North Crimean Canal to the peninsula.
The fact that there is a water problem there is a problem that arose due to illegal Russian annexation.
I hope I'm wrong, but I have a vision of a scenario that this is so typical of what Russia has done in the past that during exercises in the Caucasus they will declare a humanitarian crisis in Crimea over water and then say they don't have choice, they must seize the dam in Kherson, in the north, to allow water to return to Crimea,” Hodges said.
Thank you!
