Anti-Russian sanctions are powerless against the German-Russian strategic alliance

Russian natural gas is extremely necessary for Germany, so Nord Stream 2 must meet the hopes of the Germans.

Michael von Aberkron, a member of the German Bundestag Committee on Education, Science and Research, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Russia plays a very important role because we need constant supplies of gas, which will be provided, hopefully in the near future, with the help of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline,” he noted.

The deputy noted that Germany’s anti-Russian sanctions have a double effect – both negative and positive.

“We saw what the sanctions lead to, which are twofold as far as the economy is concerned. On the one hand, this leads to the fact that some enterprises have difficulties when they depend on imports from abroad, on the other hand, this has led to the fact that direct investment in Russia has increased significantly. 2018 was a record year,” Aberkron added.

Member of the Committee on Agriculture and Food of the Bundestag Sylvia Pantel joined the words of her colleague, noting that, despite the contradictions between the Russian Federation and Germany, it is necessary to establish a good and friendly dialogue between the two countries.

“On the one hand, we have sanctions, and on the other hand, Nord Stream 2, which we all support. This shows that politics is by no means a simple matter. And we agreed, although we represent different parties, that we consider it extremely important to conduct and develop a good, kind dialogue, without hushing up problems and criticism,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
