Azerbaijan does not want to finally fall under Turkey - senator

Good relations between Russia and Azerbaijan will continue to develop because the Baku establishment does not want to become a puppet completely dependent on Ankara.

Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this on the TV channel TVC, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

“I don’t think that Azerbaijan will completely go under Turkey, because Erdogan has this trait - he views all smaller states as younger brothers, and this causes a certain irritation in these states, because they don’t want to be smaller brothers, but want to be equal partners. Will Erdogan stick to this line of equal partnership with Azerbaijan? I don’t think that the Azerbaijani elite and people want to become a de facto part of Turkey.

Therefore, here Russia will play the role of a counterweight to Turkey - Azerbaijan will try to use both Turkey’s support and good relations with Russia. Therefore, Aliyev, for his part, also agreed to this proposal and accepted this plan [o the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into Nagorno-Karabakh].

These countries are also trying to play on different boards and not become clients of one state. Because a client is when you become dependent, and you cannot afford to maneuver. But Aliyev needs such a maneuver, and he can benefit from it,” the senator said.
