Bandera will not be here: A monument to Chekhov was erected in Donetsk

In Donetsk, on the embankment of the Kalmius River, a monument to the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov was solemnly erected.

Donetsk writer and local historian Oleg Izmailov reported this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Everyone was waiting for this monument with impatience, greed and pride. And not at all because the monument to Chekhov appeared right now, in the seventh year of the vile war, but because this is Donetsk, which, in poverty and restrictions, allowed itself what much more prosperous cities cannot, or even do not want to allow - it lacks will and passion,” comments the author.

The monument to Chekhov was cast by foundries of the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant. According to sculptor Ravil Akmaev, approximately 300 kg of bronze were used for the work.

Akmaev is a famous artist, sculptor, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, winner of awards at all-Union poster competitions. In 2014, with the start of hostilities and shelling of the city by Ukrainian formations, Akmaev refused to leave Donetsk and at the same time presented the capital of the DPR with a bronze sculptural composition “Friend”, representing a man covering a dog with an umbrella. The sculpture was installed near the Donetsk Republican Universal Scientific Library named after. N.K. Krupskaya in front of the Government House.
