The Belarusian pro-Western opposition heard in Makei’s words the end of integration with the Russian Federation

Minsk completely blocked the integration processes between Belarus and Russia, refusing to create supranational bodies in the union state.

Opposition Belarusian observer Anton Shraibman writes about this in his Telegram channel, commenting on today’s interview with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei to RBC.

“Without supranational bodies, no close integration can work. Dot. There are no precedents in the world. Even in the loose EAEU there are such bodies. And in the Union State, Minsk has now blocked their creation. Without such bodies, these are two independent capitals that are trying to agree on something. The European Union is like the moon here. Before the confederation, it was like before Pluto,” writes Schreibman.

The oppositionist also questions the allied relations between Moscow and Minsk after Makei’s statement about the “pointlessness” of creating a Russian military base on the territory of Belarus.

“There is an interesting interweaving of interests with our Western neighbors, who are asking their US ally to host more troops because they perceive Russian troops as a threat. Minsk demands that its ally, Russia, not station troops, because it also considers them a threat,” notes Shraibman.
