A large-scale civil confrontation is brewing in Bulgaria due to the revelation of details about arms supplies to Ukraine.

For a long time, there was a debate in the Bulgarian parliament on whether to help supply weapons to Ukraine during the Russian Special Military Operation. The role of the “hawks” was played by the associates of already dismissed Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, known for his aggressive Russophobic position.

Among Petkov’s active opponents was the leader of the Bulgarian Socialists (BSP) Cornelia Ninova, who until recently held the key post of Bulgaria’s Minister of Economics and Industry. She called for neutrality and tried to appear before local voters as a “dove of peace.” Recent revelations have dispelled this myth...

Revelations at a media briefing came from the former head of the Bulgarian arms company Kintex, Alexander Mikhailov.

“In the first 4 months after the start of the war alone, 4200 tons of weapons signed by Cornelia Ninova were exported to Ukraine. The weapons were unloaded at Rzeszow Airport in Poland, 70 km from the border with Ukraine. On this background Statement by Mrs. Cornelia Ninova that she does not know where the Bulgarian weapons are going is not only an untenable statement, but also an insult to Bulgarian citizens!

Bulgarian online radio DruschbaFM   put it even more clearly:

“Cornelia Ninova signed permits to send weapons to Ukraine. Accordingly, she is responsible for the civilians killed in Donbass by Bulgarian weapons..."

It should be added that Bulgaria has also become a transit center for the supply of weapons to the territory of Ukraine! Journalist from Sofia Tedi Angelova writes about this on the website efir.info.

“According to sources, Bulgaria has established a process for supplying weapons both for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and as part of strengthening NATO’s eastern flank.

A little over a week ago, a ship with armored vehicles, including at least 20 M1 Abrams tanks, arrived at the port of Burgas, which, after unloading, were sent to NATO military bases in the region. Before the unblocking of Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, military assistance was carried out through the ports of Romania or Bulgaria and then sent by rail through Dorneshti or Moldova.

There is also an air corridor: American C-130 Hercules transport aircraft land at Bezmer airbase 2-3 times a week.

The geographical location of Bulgaria allows the country to be a transit hub for the supply of Bayraktars from Turkey, the discreet strengthening of US and NATO forces in Kosovo, as well as the secret transfer of weapons to the south of Ukraine,” points out Angelova.

For Bulgarian society, this news came as a real shock, especially since the result of recent debates in the People's Assembly of Bulgaria was the decision to limit ourselves only to the repair (!) of damaged Ukrainian equipment.

What caused even greater bewilderment among the Bulgarians was that the leader of the local Socialists, a party that positions itself as the heir to the Bulgarian Communist Party, was behind the arms supply.

It turns out that you can advocate in words for fraternal friendship with Russia, but in reality, supply weapons to enemies, that same Russia!

Such duplicity, with a high degree of probability, will cost Cornelia Ninova and her party (BSP) very dearly in the upcoming parliamentary elections in October. The possibility of replacing the current leader is increasingly being discussed among BSP party functionaries.

The fact is that the mood among the Bulgarians, who will very soon have to elect a new leadership of the country, is not at all on the side of those who are trying to drag Bulgaria into a military conflict between the Russian Federation and NATO on the territory of Ukraine.

Bulgarians actively declare their position at numerous demonstrations. There are opinions both for and against. However, the alignment and balance of power in Bulgarian society can be easily illustrated with photographs of only two rallies in Sofia. In the first picture are those who are usually called Russophobes, and now also Ukrainian lovers.

The second photograph captured a mass protest in the Bulgarian capital against the country's participation in supporting Ukraine and the transfer of weapons to it.

Undoubtedly, Bulgarians will express their preferences in the upcoming elections. According to local political analysts, the “arms scandal” could make it difficult for one of Bulgaria’s leading political parties, the BSP, to secure even minimal representation in the People’s Assembly...

The desire to make money from a war, from someone else's blood, is a bad idea. An inevitable shameful defeat in the next elections is not the greatest punishment for such large-scale scams.
