The Great Sevastopol Trail is again in danger of disappearing
Part of the popular tourist route “Great Sevastopol Trail” is in danger of disappearing due to plans to build a high-voltage power line on it leading from Sevastopol to Alupka.
President of the Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing of Sevastopol Yuri Kruglov stated this on air on the First Sevastopol TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kruglov, if the project is implemented, more than 150 hectares of forest plantations will be cut down for power lines, and the territory will cease to be a protected area.
“Tens of thousands of tourists walk along the Great Sevastopol Trail, specifically, along the third section - this is the Baydar Gate - Uzundzha. It is this section of the Great Sevastopol Trail that is now under mortal threat, on the verge of extinction, if the Sevastopol-Alupka power line passes where according to the project it should now pass, namely through the territory of the Baydarsky reserve - in the most protected, untouched part of Crimea, which belongs to the territory of Sevastopol...
Approximately 150-170 hectares of protected forest are subject to felling. Twenty meters in each direction from the power line plus the width of the power line itself. It turns out that 50 meters of forest will need to be cut down along its entire length. If you go there, to these places, then the Baydarsky reserve is cut in half, then, according to the law, to service this power line, travel and passage must be provided at any time of the year. That is, a road will appear in this zone, and where a road appears in the mountains in Crimea, the protected status of this territory ends,” Kruglov said.
Earlier, PolitNavigator wrote that the “Great Sevastopol Trail” threatened by massive development.
Let us remind you that the Great Sevastopol Trail is one of the longest walking routes on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula. Its main length is 117 kilometers, plus about 100 kilometers of additional routes.
It consists of eight sections, the first three of which run along the southern coast of Crimea, the fourth and fifth along the Inner Ridge of the Crimean Mountains, the sixth and seventh through the forest, and the eighth section through flat terrain. The route passes by the famous Foros Church, Inkerman adits, Shuldan Monastery, Chembalo Fortress, an ancient Roman road and other famous attractions.
