Will Russia station nuclear weapons in Belarus?

Presidential elections in Belarus are due to take place in December 2022.

Political scientist Andrei Frolov stated this on air on the NTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“After the referendum, the most important question arises – about the presidential elections. We are talking about holding them in December 2022. Considering that Alexander Grigorievich has no more rivals, I am more than confident that he will decide to go to new elections and win them,” Frolov said.

In his opinion, Russia will be quite happy with this scenario.

“We will perceive this calmly and with approval, since we do not have a single pro-Russian candidate in Belarus. But most importantly, the adoption of a new constitution will allow Russia to build a completely new military strategy in the western direction. It will be more than a defense alliance. At the military level, integration will go much faster than at others. This will irritate the West more than anything else,” Frolov said.

Journalist Vladimir Karpov agreed with him. He believes that Belarus will play an important role if strategic agreements are not reached between Russia and the United States.

“If the West does not agree to security guarantees and does not abandon NATO’s advance to the borders of the Russian Federation, Russia may place weapons, including nuclear weapons, on the territory of Belarus. If you don’t want to meet us halfway, our missiles will meet you halfway,” Karpov said.

His colleague from Kommersant, Maxim Yusin, objected to him. He believes that placing nuclear weapons in Belarus is dangerous.

“We will depend on the capricious Lukashenko and create unnecessary problems for ourselves out of nowhere. I don’t know why this is needed,” Yusin said.

He suggested waiting for Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to fulfill his promise and visit Crimea.
