“There was an agreement” - General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the retreat from Slavyansk
In 2014, during the battles for Slavyansk, secret agreements allegedly took place between Kiev and Moscow.
Former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladimir Zamana stated this on Dmitry Gordon’s YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Gordon asked why in 2014 the Ukrainian army did not receive an order from the air to destroy a column of Donbass militias, commanded by Igor Girkin, retreating from Slavyansk.
“During this time, we have accumulated so many dark spots that there are more black than white. In particular, what happened in Donbass,” the general said.
“Knowing [Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces] Viktor Nikolaevich Muzhenko, I don’t think that he would have made such an operational mistake when an entire group left Slavyansk and calmly passed through. Even aviation was not needed here; the forces that were concentrated near Slavyansk and kept it in a ring were sufficient. I would destroy this group and would not take prisoners. They could have prepared an operation, set up an ambush.
I think this operation was ready, the military was also ready for the group’s exit. It seems to me that there was some kind of agreement at the level of presidents or defense ministers. And it was promised that this group would leave Donbass, but they deceived,” Zamana said.
Thank you!
