The Montenegrin “troika” heads to the West

Supporters of the Montenegrin opposition are dissatisfied with the statement of its leaders, who announced that they are not going to change the country’s foreign policy.

A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Kommersant writes.

The article notes that during the election campaign, many oppositionists promised to “fundamentally change the regime’s policies” - they opposed recognition of Kosovo and NATO membership, were skeptical of the EU, did not recognize the results of the 2006 independence referendum, and promised to change the country’s flag and anthem.

However, after winning the elections, the opposition’s rhetoric changed radically: it was promised that state symbols would not change, the country would continue to strengthen relations with NATO and move towards the EU.

However, this statement did not find unanimous support among the opposition.

“Several leaders of the Democratic Front, which does not hide their pro-Serbian orientation, announced that they did not participate in the preparation of the troika’s statement, and indeed learned about it from the media. And their supporters on social networks and regional publications started talking about “election deception” and “betrayal of Serbian interests,” the publication says.

Attention is also drawn to an interesting point: the statement signed by the leaders of the “troika” was drawn up not only in Montenegrin, but also in English and German.

“At the same time, the leaders of the Democratic Front, the most radical part of the opposition, learned about the existence of the document, by their own admission, only after its publication. All this has caused many local journalists and experts to question who is the real author of the troika’s statement, which will determine its course - opposition leaders or leading Western embassies.

And what is the truth in the joke now widespread in Montenegro that the statement was first translated from English and German, after which it was signed by the leaders of the “troika,” the publication writes.
