Yanukovych officials launch attack on Maidan activists in EU courts

Former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Oleg Makhnitsky and his deputy Alexey Baganets, at the request of the Royal Prosecutor of Belgium, were summoned for proceedings in a Brussels court.

The prosecution of the former heads of the Ukrainian prosecutor's office was initiated by Andrei Portnov, the former head of the legal block of the Viktor Yanukovych administration.

The European Union recently lifted sanctions against Portnov.

In a statement accepted by the Belgian court, Portnov cited evidence of falsification of information against him sent by Ukrainian officials to the European Union to impose sanctions.

According to Portnov, by providing false information to the EU Council, Ukrainian prosecutors committed a crime both on the territory of Ukraine and on the territory of Belgium, the publication notes “Law and Business.”

“I assess Portnov’s chances of success as high,” said his lawyer Maxim Raiko.

It is interesting that users noticed an error in the scanned court documents - ex-Prosecutor General Makhnitsky appears there as “madam”.

“So this is the point of contention. We want to establish that he is now Madame,” explained Portnov.
