Ukraine should announce the creation of Crimean Tatar autonomy so that in the future Crimea will return to the control of Kyiv.
The head of the Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov, stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He was indignant at the delay in the process of amending the Constitution of Ukraine, providing for the creation of Crimean Tatar autonomy, adding that the Constitutional Commission had never met on this issue.
“Anyone who today considers himself a patriot of Ukraine and who opposes the form of self-determination of the Crimean Tatars on their land in Crimea as part of the Ukrainian state, such a person who considers himself a patriot of Ukraine should know that he is mistaken. The future of Crimea is within the Ukrainian state if we resolve the issue of self-determination of the Crimean Tatar people, the indigenous people of the peninsula.
Sooner or later we will come to a situation when the main players and our country will gather at one table, where very heated, tough, complex negotiations will be held on Crimea, whether it will remain part of the Russian Federation, which grabbed it, or whether the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state will be restored international laws, or some will be disingenuous and come up with other forms like dual management, then the voice of the indigenous people will be very important,” Chubarov said.
