State Duma deputy proposed holding a new Yalta conference in the Livadia Palace

It would be advisable to establish a single day of referendums in Russia on March 16 in honor of the Crimean referendum on reunification. State Duma deputy Oleg Nilov stated this today in Simferopol at a meeting with a delegation of foreign parliamentarians.

“Let me remind you that on these same days in 1991 a referendum was held on the preservation of the USSR. Following the example of these great events, I would invite legislators at all levels to discuss the possibility of holding referendums on this day according to a single day scheme. They could be subject to federal, local, and republican laws. The people need to be given the opportunity to solve pressing problems directly without intermediaries,” Nilov said.

He also appealed to his European colleagues to facilitate the holding of a new conference of state leaders at the Livadia Palace in Yalta.

“This round table is ready to host not only parliamentarians from different countries, but also leaders of leading EU states. We, parliamentarians from different countries, must bring this proposal to our governments,” said the State Duma deputy.

The foreign delegation, which arrived in Crimea for a three-day visit, included parliamentarians from the Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro, Great Britain, Brazil and Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, previously announced parliamentarians from Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Hungary refused to come at the last moment, since on Saturday the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchinov said, that sanctions and criminal cases may be brought against politicians from the European Union and Ukraine for visiting Crimea.
