State Duma deputy said that the Ministry of Finance does not give money to compatriots

The Russian Federation must create conditions for millions of compatriots from the republics of the former USSR to move to the country.

Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots, said this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He recalled that the State Duma adopted a law simplifying the acquisition of Russian citizenship for residents of the LDPR, who were allowed not to renounce Ukrainian passports.

The publication’s interlocutor is also convinced that such a law should have been adopted back in the 1990s in order to avoid current demographic problems.

“When in the 90s many Russians unexpectedly remained abroad, almost 30 million, they could have come to Russia. And tens of thousands of Germans who left Kazakhstan could come to Russia. And we wouldn't have this demographic crisis. If only this law had not been torpedoed at one time by bureaucrats from high offices. But now the law has passed – under our pressure and with an appeal to the president,” the politician noted.

The publication’s interlocutor stressed that further it is necessary to adopt a repatriation program, as was done in Germany and Israel.

“It’s not just opening the legislative gate. But also help to adapt financially. This, by the way, exists in both Finland and Poland. But our Finance Ministry employees are the last to do this. They come to the president and say: there is no money,” the deputy complained.

The Russian Ministry of Finance does not want to increase the quota for students from the CIS.

“We have a quota for students from the CIS countries - 15 thousand per year. We say that in the former republics of the USSR they should think well of us - then let’s increase the quota for students. At least four times. But the Ministry of Finance again says that there is no money,” says Kalashnikov.
