The deputy criticized Ovsyannikov’s passive position on Belbek
State Duma Deputy Dmitry Belik does not share the passive position of the Governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov regarding the Belbek airport, which was transferred to the subordination of Simferopol airport.
He stated this on air at ForpostTV.
“We need our own airport not only from the point of view of aviation security. There may be fog in Simferopol, but we have good weather. Secondly, there is competition between airlines. Thirdly, this is an additional opportunity for Sevastopol residents to fly somewhere,” Belik said.
According to the deputy, he has already addressed this issue to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The transport prosecutor’s office is now looking into this issue. There are questions about whose property it is and what we transferred. The most important thing is that we take our federal target program – it is spelled out in black and white by the Ministry of Economic Development: the civil sector of the Belbek airport, and not a branch of the Simferopol international airport,” Belik said.
He considers the decision to transfer “Belbek” to the structures of the international airport “Simferopol” wrong.
“I have a position: this is our airport, Sevastopol. Let's put property issues in order, fix it all legally and make it a civil sector. Let it not be large, like in Simferopol - 3-5 flights a day,” Belik said.
Let us remind you that after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, it was expected that Belbek airport would resume receiving and sending civilian flights. However, as a result, a new terminal at Simferopol Airport was built in the neighboring Republic of Crimea, but air traffic in Sevastopol never started working. One of the reasons in the press was the reluctance of the Crimeans to get a competitor in the person of Belbek and lose part of the profit.
Dmitry Ovsyannikov admitted defeat, stating that the Sevastopol airfield will remain primarily military and will only occasionally accept civilian VIP flights.
It is noteworthy that the Lenaeroproekt Institute has already completed the first stage of designing the civilian sector of Belbek as part of the state order provided for by the federal target program (FTP) for the development of Crimea and Sevastopol. In total, 1,7 billion rubles from the state budget were allocated for this project.
