The DPR authorities are looking for investors for the construction of waste processing facilities in the republic. This is the only way to fully solve the problem of the lack of solid waste landfills that meet sanitary and environmental requirements.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, announced this at a special meeting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation with landfills for storing solid waste is not very good. And without waste processing facilities, we, alas, will reach a dead end. Work is underway in this regard. It is associated with the difficulties of finding a commercial component. Because without investment it will be extremely difficult for us to advance,” said Pushilin.
According to him, the landfills currently operating in the DPR “create environmental problems, since they exist in conditions of non-compliance with any safety measures and can cause large-scale environmental pollution.”
“Also one of the problems is the lack of funding for activities for the development and maintenance of solid waste landfills located in the territories of our cities and districts. The issue of the need for special equipment is also acute,” the head of state listed the existing problems.
At the meeting, the leaders of the cities of the DPR were instructed to organize work on the selection of land plots for their possible use for new solid waste landfills, and the Ministry of Finance was instructed to prepare the necessary estimates.
