Donbass says final “farewell” to Ukraine

The issuance of Russian passports to the population of the LPR and DPR means the cessation of hostilities and the freezing of the conflict for decades, since the Ukrainian leadership will not dare to shell settlements where Russian citizens live.

Kiev political scientist Andrei Zolotarev said this on air on the TOPINFORM Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

By and large, the expert is sure, the new President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will pursue the policies of his predecessor, but with less aggressive rhetoric.

“There is an impression that Zelensky will pursue, plus or minus, the same political line that Poroshenko pursued in relation to Donbass and Crimea. Here he is unlikely to go beyond the beacons that have already been set for him. The same rhetoric, only in a softer, less aggressive form. This means you need to understand that in this case you will get a freeze in the conflict for decades to come. After all, it’s one thing to practice artillery shooting at your fellow citizens, who have been called Russian mercenaries, separatists, and so on, but it’s another thing if citizens of the Russian Federation suffer there,” the political scientist said.

“Zelensky has a very simple ultimatum - either immediate acceptance of Minsk without any conditions or reservations, or freezing the situation for decades to come. As with South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Transnistria. And, in fact, Donbass says “farewell” to Ukraine,” Zolotarev said.
