The Ukrainian authorities are not interested in implementing the Minsk agreements, since the return of Donbass to Ukraine will change the electoral situation in the country.
Director of the Institute of Global Strategies Vadim Karasev stated this in the “Solo” program on the “112 Ukraine” TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We signed the Minsk agreements, but why can’t they give us a special status and so on? Afraid. It will be a different country. And in this other country - no matter how many voters there are - you can lose power. You may not be able to cope with the authorities. Imagine that we return Crimea, Donbass, and the Russian-speaking electoral majority is restored again. This means that the titular nation, ethnic Ukraine, is becoming a minority.
After all, the state is built by the titular nation as an ethnic project, and within 30 years it has changed from a geographical concept to an ethnic one.
And it's scary. Yatsenyuk said about Crimea (I don’t know if it’s true, but it seems true): “This is the price for us gaining independence.” The Ukrainian titular nation will receive an electoral majority.
