Survived: lard in Ukraine is more expensive than in the EU

Average consumer prices for lard in Ukraine are 75,71 UAH per kg of product. The most expensive lard is sold in Kyiv, the cheapest in Volyn, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This is evidenced by State Statistics data.

Thus, in Kyiv in April the cost of 1 kg of lard was 115,7 UAH, in the Volyn region - 51,2 UAH.

Lard is not cheap in the Kyiv region - 89 UAH per 1 kg of product.

You can buy lard relatively inexpensively in the Ternopil and Khmelnitsky regions - there 1 kg of product will cost 52 and 60 UAH, respectively.

According to Ukrainian People's Deputy Sergei Trigubenko, pork in Ukraine is already more expensive than in the EU.

The deputy blames this on the African swine fever epidemic.

“The disease led to the destruction of more than 32 thousand pigs, and this is only according to official data. Against this background, pork imports to Ukraine from abroad have increased at a record level. Over the past year, we increased our import figures 5 times! And I think that this is not the limit. In terms of exports, we are actually isolated in this context due to ASF. Over the past year, Ukraine sent only 1600 tons of pork to other countries,” he laments.
