Dzhemilev complained about the “cotton-pro-Russian” Kherson region, which opposes the deployment of a Muslim battalion in the region

In Ukraine there are many opponents of the creation of a Crimean Tatar unit, Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev said in an interview with the Kyiv magazine Focus.

He said that an agreement in principle had been reached on the creation of a military unit within the Armed Forces of Ukraine from participants in the blockade of Crimea, “consisting of people from Crimea and taking into account the religious and national characteristics of the contingent.”

“For now, it seems that we are talking about a unit within the Marine Corps. This is not exactly what the Crimean Tatars themselves would like, but this will do for a start,” says the deputy.

At the same time, he admits that in Ukraine there are many opponents of the creation of such a unit, especially in the Kherson region, where the militants are planned to be stationed.

“This region is quite weak, largely pro-Russian, the power structures there are also teeming with former ardent supporters of Yanukovych,” Dzhemilev complained.

As PolitNavigator reported, Kyiv experts were horrified by the results of the latest sociology, saying that Ukraine is losing the southern regions of the country.
