Dzhemilev was convicted of ignorance of the geography of Crimea

The statements of the deputy of the Ukrainian parliament Mustafa Dzhemilev, who said that Ukraine, by cutting off the supply of water to Crimea via the North Crimean Canal in 2014, deprived the peninsula of agriculture due to drought, are not true.

Kommersant writes about this, citing Crimean ecologists and meteorologists.

Thus, the chairman of the Crimean Republican Association “Ecology and Peace” Viktor Tarasenko told the publication that statements about drought due to the blocking of the canal are “political in nature” and contradict the laws of geography and ecology.

He added that in the previous three years there was enough rainfall in Crimea to harvest a good harvest.

“But the climate follows a sinusoid. Years rich in precipitation give way to dry ones. There is nothing unusual here for Crimea,” Tarasenko noted.

In turn, the head of the Crimean Hydrometeorological Center, Tatyana Lyubetskaya, called the attempt to link the drought with the closure of the North Crimean Canal “stupidity”.

“The weather depends on atmospheric processes. What does the channel have to do with this,” Lyubetskaya said.

According to her, the drought will be relieved by widespread rains, but so far the Hydrometeorological Center has not predicted them.
