Economist: Our budget is a reflection of poor and hopeless Ukraine

Ukraine needs to double its investment to ensure sustainable economic growth, but it does not have the resources for this.

Economist Viktor Skarshevsky stated this on air on the Capital channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I can say how much investment is needed for us to have long-term, high-quality economic growth, if we look at other countries. I am talking primarily about domestic investments.

Now in Ukraine investments amount to 15-17% of GDP. In countries that are growing rapidly and over the long term – 25-30%.

This means that investments in Ukraine should double - through bank lending, through own funds, through foreign investments. This doesn't happen.

There is no long-term internal resource in Ukraine. There is no banking either. The National Bank is dependent on the IMF, so no incentive programs are provided with the help of the National Bank’s instruments.

Our budget is a reflection of a poor country that will not grow anytime soon,” he said.
