Enshrining in the Ukrainian Constitution a special status for the DPR and LPR will mean the actual recognition of the Donbass republics by Kiev.
Kiev political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, who previously served the interests of President Petro Poroshenko, stated this on the YouTube channel “PolitekA”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“The first and most important thing is that there cannot be a special status for the LPR and DPR. Now, Zelensky already says, as far as I know, and sometimes speaks out publicly, they are against securing a special status for ORDLO in the Constitution. As far as I understand, their position is to implement this in constitutional changes as part of the decentralization process, but there is no constitutional consolidation of a special status specifically for Donbass or for the ORDLO. And for me the main thing is to fix it, clearly say that there is no special status for the DPR and LPR. So that there is no recognition of these separatist republics,” Fesenko said.
