Energy expert: The launch of Nord Stream 2 will no longer save Europe from crazy gas prices

The launch of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline will not lead to a reduction in gas prices to Europe.

Energy expert Alexander Frolov stated this on the Geoenergetics Info YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Even if Nord Stream 2 starts operating now, there are demand limitations. Let's imagine that demand on the exchanges has decreased, prices have fallen. But what will happen to liquefied natural gas then? No one will sell it at lower prices, for example, $500 per thousand cubic meters. These cargoes will turn around and go to Asia.

And prices will begin to level out and rise again. Without a correction of the situation on the part of the Asia-Pacific region, Europe cannot expect a reduction in gas prices, whether there is a Nord Stream or not. But as a political step, the launch of Nord Stream is possible, but it will not have a positive impact on prices in Europe,” Frolov said.
