President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko regularly tries to use the problems that arise in Russia for personal gain.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Lukashenko’s friendship with Russia is limited to cheap energy resources and non-repayable loans.
“This has always been and will always be so as long as Lukashenko is in power. But let's speak frankly, after all, Belarus still remains the closest, closest ally of the Russian Federation.
Yes, Lukashenko’s positions have always been distinguished by similar approaches. We are friends, brothers forever, as long as there is free oil, gas, etc. As soon as there is talk of somehow bringing prices into a certain order, so that they are at least not lower than for Russian consumers, sharp statements and actions immediately arise aimed at bringing them closer (to the West).
It happened with Yushchenko’s Ukraine, then with Poroshenko’s Ukraine, with Zelensky’s Ukraine it will be exactly the same. This, in fact, is the cunning tactics and strategy of Mr. Lukashenko.
As soon as there is an opportunity to put some pressure, as he believes, on Russia, this opportunity must be taken advantage of. And then bargain for additional economic preferences. So in this regard, Lukashenko’s approaches have not changed,” Kornilov said.
