"This is masochism." Molotov’s grandson does not understand what Russia is doing in the ECHR

The decision of the ECHR to reject Russia’s request to apply interim measures against Ukraine in connection with discrimination of the Russian language and the water blockade of Crimea within the framework of claim filed by the Russian Federation was predictable.

According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Vyacheslav Nikonov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science, head of the Russian World Foundation and grandson of Stalin’s People’s Commissar Vyacheslav Molotov, stated this in an interview published by Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“This court itself, in fact, is not a court. It is a meeting of experts, if you like. These are not judges who make verdicts there. […] It is based on the opinions of experts on human rights issues, which are well known to all of us. And which makes absolutely predictable, one hundred percent anti-Russian decisions,” Nikonov said.

At the same time, he does not understand what Russia is doing in the Council of Europe and, accordingly, in the ECHR.

“I think that our presence in the Council of Europe, as well as in PACE, in the ECHR is something of masochism. Because these organizations themselves do not give us anything, but at the same time they make XNUMX% anti-Russian decisions. And we still pay money for it. And for membership. And then we also pay for the sanctions that are imposed by the same ECHR... In my opinion, this is a waste of time and money. And - nerves. It is obvious to me that the decisions of the ECHR are predictable. It is clear that in any lawsuit where one party is Russia and the other is Ukraine, the Ukrainian side will be involved. This is absolutely predictable,” the politician concluded.
