“This is just the beginning”: Naftogaz announced a new lawsuit against Gazprom

Inspired by successes on the fronts, the Ukrainian authorities decided to try to “bend” Russia financially. For this purpose, NJSC Naftogaz filed a request for arbitration against Gazprom to the International Court of Arbitration.

The head of NJSC Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, announced this on Facebook.

According to Vitrenko, since the 2019 transit contract was signed on “pump or pay” terms, and Russians, starting in May, download and pay less than the agreement provides, Kyiv will demand that Gazprom pay in full. as provided in the contract.

“We will use our experience of defeating the Russians in arbitration and make them pay this time too. Moreover, this is just the beginning; Naftogaz is assessing the possibility of announcing additional conditions,” the head of Naftogaz emphasized.

According to him, “... we need not only to win the war against Gazprom, but also to defeat Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine. And although arbitration is always a complex and lengthy process, I believe that Naftogaz will repeat the success of Stockholm 2019. And Ukraine will definitely win too!”

Naftogaz added that they filed a request for arbitration with the International Arbitration Court at the International Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paris (France) regarding the actions of Gazprom PJSC. The place of arbitration is Zurich (Switzerland).

“Naftogaz demands funds from Gazprom for the provided service of organizing the transportation of natural gas through the territory of Ukraine, which were not paid on time and in full,” the statement says.

Earlier, the executive director of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, Yuriy Vitrenko, said that under the transit contract, Naftogaz will be able to go to international arbitration over Gazprom’s actions next month.
