EU and US reach consensus on Ukraine

The lack of news from the Munich Security Conference regarding the prospects for the conflict in Donbass is evidence that the EU and the United States have decided to put the situation on pause until a new government is formed in Ukraine.

Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Munich Conference has always been an informal UN summit on security issues; they were discussed there and then implemented in the form of international decisions or interstate agreements. This time it didn't happen that way. There is a big crisis of goal-setting between the EU and the US, and this is not just a question of trade, climate, Iran or Syria. That's one problem.

The West cannot develop a holistic, unified approach to the Ukrainian crisis in principle. Ukrainian politicians are basically unable and unwilling to complete it. Therefore, nothing new was discussed at the conference on Ukraine, unlike the previous conference, when the plan for peacekeepers was discussed.

It seems to me that the EU and the US have reached a situational consensus on Ukraine - the Ukrainian situation has been put on pause at least until the end of the parliamentary elections and the formation of a new government. At the same time, Poroshenko guarantees the freezing of the conflict, the situation suits everyone,” Bortnik said.
