EU rejects Lukashenko's plan for Donbass

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko proposed his plan for resolving the conflict in Donbass to the European Union back in 2014, but it was rejected.

Lukashenko stated this today in Minsk at the opening of the international conference on combating terrorism, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“When this conflict began, one of the high-ranking officials, I won’t name their names, called me and asked what we would do, what the point of view of Belarus was. At his insistence, he sent the Minister of Foreign Affairs with an action plan and personal guarantees for the measures that were to be carried out, and added: “If you reject this plan, where the main burden was to fall on Belarus, I will assume that Europe does not want, so that this conflict settles down and ends.

And what do you think? Civilized Europe rejected this plan, even in detail. And they began to fight for Donbass, for Crimea, and something else, Normandy formats, including in Belarus,” Lukashenko said.

He recalled that Belarus has accepted more than 150 thousand refugees from Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in Donbass.

“The Europeans cannot share two thousand migrants. Democratic Europe: children hanging out at sea, people running away from the problems we created in their homeland. We don’t accept them, let them die, they are not ours. And 150 thousand people who were not strangers to us poured into us. And literally a few days later I signed a decree providing them with equal opportunities in Belarus in housing, education, and work. We were afraid to grind these 150 thousand for our Belarus with our problems. Do you think anyone helped us? No, but we didn’t really ask for this help,” Lukashenko said.
