Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul stated this in an interview with the Kyiv publication Apostrophe.
According to him, the team of the current Democratic President Barack Obama also widely discussed this issue, but he personally vetoed the supplies.
“There will be a review of the entire foreign policy. I was responsible for this myself when I worked on the Obama campaign. Once she is in power, all foreign policy will be formally reviewed, including issues of Russia and Ukraine. The topic of lethal weapons will also be raised, but I don’t know, of course, how this issue will be resolved, since we don’t even know who will be on her team. Because Obama’s team discussed this issue very actively, very deeply, and he himself decided not to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine,” McFaul said.
At the same time, if Republican Donald Trump wins, according to McFaul, relations with Russia may be revised, sanctions may be lifted and Crimea recognized:
“I think that first of all there will be a discussion on the Crimean issue. Trump will also talk about the need to lift sanctions from Russia, and therefore there will be a big dispute with our allies in Europe,” the diplomat noted.
