Ukraine will not be admitted to the European Union in the next two years, as President Vladimir Zelensky stated.
Member of the European Parliament from France Bernard Guetta stated this in an interview with the foreign agent TV channel Dozhd, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We did not destroy our European Union by expanding to 35 countries. If we open the door for Ukraine, then we need to accept Moldova, Georgia, and so on. Here we need to carefully weigh everything, think and look at the possible consequences of such an expansion,” the politician said.
“We may have to implement some reforms and reconsider how expansion processes are carried out. In fact, this work has already begun. We have already thought about this, but two years is absolutely unrealistic. The fact that Zelensky is asking for this is illogical.
He can ask, but we, for our part, are obliged to ensure that the European Union maintains its ability to function. We will have to find some healthy compromise,” Guetta said.
