Gas analyst: Serbia is doing much wiser than Moldova

Gazprom will most likely reduce the price of gas for Serbia as a transit country for Russian “blue fuel”. It will range from 200 to 350 dollars per thousand cubic meters.

Leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov stated this in an interview with the PolitWera YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Serbia behaves much wiser than Moldova. If Chisinau sent deputy prime ministers to Moscow to bargain, but at the same time the top officials disavowed Russia in every possible way and demanded something, then Serbia is classically playing the card of fraternal peoples. Vučić stated that he was counting on the lowest price in Europe. Almost cheaper than Germany. He behaves wisely, realizing that Gazprom may be ordered to make concessions. Give the same oil link and make the price more comfortable for Serbia,” the expert noted.

“The justification for the low price for Serbia can be that it has now become a transit country for Russian gas. Previously, Gazprom always provided discounts to transit countries. Serbia has shown itself to be a consistent country. Starting this year, the Turkish Stream transit to Hungary goes through it. The gas pipeline has been completed,” Yushkov said.

He is confident that the gas price for Serbia will be below the market, but assumes that in return Russia will demand some political concessions.

“I think that in the range from 200 to 350 dollars per thousand cubic meters. Maybe they will give a formula, as Moldova used to have: in the summer we are more attached to the spot, in the summer - to oil. Maybe every year there will be an additional agreement with a fixed price. All this will be justified by the fact that Serbia is considering the option of joining the EAEU,” the analyst added.

Tomorrow in Sochi there will be talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. The day before, in an interview with Vladimir Solovyov, the Serbian leader admitted that the main issue for them would be the issue of gas prices.
