Over the 11 months of 2021, the flow of natural gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system decreased by a quarter.

During January-November 2021, 38,3 billion cubic meters of Russian gas passed through the Ukrainian gas transmission system. This is 23,5% less than for the same period in 2020.

Energy markets expert Valentin Zemlyansky notes that the reduction in transit has been known for a long time.
“Transit had to be reduced. This is provided for in the contract. The contract provides for transit in the amount of 65 billion cubic meters in 2020 and 40 billion cubic meters in the following years.
They (GTS Operator) are trying to push this as a great threat, but this is not a threat, it was written in the contract and known in advance,” Valentin Zemlyansky said in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
