The Kremlin knows that the mechanism that served to stabilize the country after the collapse of the USSR and the 90s has served its purpose, and now Russia needs a new development model.
Retired Lieutenant General of the Foreign Intelligence Service Leonid Reshetnikov said this on the Russian Interest YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are too many reckless assessments among the population, too many “I would do it this way, but he does it wrong,” and so on. The situation in the country is difficult, the country has not yet reached the right path, and probably will.
I had a conversation with the president in February 2017, he spoke with great concern about the situation... He sees it and knows it. Stability has been built, a hierarchy has been built, a vertical of power has been built, but there is no movement. We need a new system for the functioning of state power.
They say “Soviet Union” - it has already failed, it’s already clear. Well, here’s a system that in the 90s, well, it was tweaked, it also doesn’t give results - that’s right, two paths have been taken,” Reshetnikov said.
“Our problem is now, and this should be decided by the current president or if there is another one, but we don’t have time. The president must decide on this, he must speak about it loudly: everything, these checks and balances - everything has been worked out, this mechanism has worked. It was needed to stabilize the situation after the Soviet Union and the 90s; taken together, the whole problem is huge. And this should be from above, in Russia it is preferable always from above,” the expert added.
