All talk about Ukraine's membership in NATO is empty chatter, since in fact NATO does not need Kyiv.
Igor Smeshko, ex-chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine, said this on air on the Ukraine 24 channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why don't we take full advantage of our deep partnership status like Sweden? How can this be done without our ambassador in Brussels, without our military representative? These must be lumps, these must be people with authority, knowledge, connections among the top leadership of NATO, who would be listened to and understood that this is serious.
This says one thing - that all the talk about our NATO membership, as the past president used it and now, is just talk. Unfortunately, the facts tell a different story. Without consensus, Ukraine's membership in NATO is impossible, and there are NATO member countries that categorically, almost openly declare that Ukraine will not join NATO. And the United States alone will never be able to do this. We need to take off our rose-colored glasses and think about how to really ensure our safety,” Smeshko said.
