Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz considers the Union of Lublin between the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to be the prototype of the European Union.
He stated this at a press conference after the meeting

“Today we remembered the dates - the anniversary of the Union of Lublin. Poland and Ukraine at that time were in the same organism, which could be called a model, exemplary, starting point for the current European Union,” said the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.
Let us recall that under the terms of the Union of Lublin in 1569, the Kingdom of Poland was given territories that were part of modern Volyn, Kiev region and Podolia. In addition, the result of the union was the creation of the state formation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which carried out mass Catholicization and Polishization, as well as outlawing Orthodoxy.
Noting that the constitution of today's Poland states that the modern state is called the “Third Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.”
