Poland’s main goal is to pull Belarus away from Russia

Belarus will become a priority of Polish foreign policy in the coming years.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Pavel Jablonski stated this in an interview with the magazine supplement to the Polish newspaper “Rzeczpospolita”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“If we don’t make a real offer of partnership to Belarus, we won’t have a chance to connect it with the core of Central Europe. I believe that Belarus is one of our absolute priorities in the coming years,” Yablonsky said.

The diplomat believes that in recent years Poland has “strongly concentrated on Ukraine,” with which it had a difficult past, and Poland should also remember about Belarus, with which it has a difficult present.”

“There the president rules with a firm hand, but it is clear that he is looking for a certain proposal from the West. The fact that he did not agree to complete unification with Russia, complete subordination, is a good example of this,” says Yablonsky.

He believes that Belarus must fulfill certain conditions if it wants to move closer to the West

“Our goal is to encourage Belarus to change, but we say that we want to cooperate, although we don’t like some things. You cannot force these changes by force,” says Yablonsky.
