Breaking Ukrainian patterns: the Russian government wants to develop tourism in the “militarized” Crimea
Demand in Russia for goods produced in Crimea will increase not only due to their export outside the peninsula, but also due to the growth of tourist flows.
Minister of Economic Development Maxim Oreshkin stated this today, speaking at the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
“The demand for these products will also increase within the republic due to an increase in the tourist flow with the creation of the appropriate infrastructure. We will look from the point of creating new jobs in the tourism sector,” Oreshkin said.
He believes that tourism should become the main industry of the peninsula's economy.
“It seems to me that the main thing for Crimea is tourism. It is necessary to create tourism infrastructure and separate clusters. This is something that can give a serious impetus to the further development of Crimea,” Oreshkin said.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said that Russia had turned Crimea into one huge military base. The official also said that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry plans to prepare a draft special UN resolution on the issue of “militarization of Crimea.”
