Last year, Pridnestrovie demonstrated record economic indicators not only in the CIS, but also in the world. Russian economist Sergei Glazyev stated this in an interview with the First Pridnestrovian TV channel.
“I am delighted with the results achieved by the government of Transnistria, because I well understand how difficult the situation was initially: the economy was literally heading towards disaster. The stunning growth rate of investment activity is a world record. I don’t know of other examples when investment activity immediately increased by 42%,” Glazyev said.
He is confident: if the PMR government continues this course for another 10 years, Pridnestrovie will become one of the most prosperous parts of the CIS.
At the same time, residents of Transnistria on social networks are not inclined to agree with such an enthusiastic assessment. They complain about the continued rise in prices and invite a Russian economist to visit so that he can be convinced that ordinary people have not felt any improvement.
Former Deputy Minister of Economy of the PMR Luciya Chalov believes that Glazyev’s complacency is explained by the fact that he gave the interview after a meeting in Moscow with officials from Tiraspol, who announced data on record economic growth in the Russian capital.
“A couple more times the prime minister in Moscow will talk about our economic growth, and not only will they not give us help, they will force us to pay for gas,” Chalov sarcastically comments on Facebook about the “pre-Easter Transnistrian miracle.”
