The State Duma will prohibit calling any shmurdyak “Wine of Russia”
The State Duma adopted in the first reading the bill on viticulture and winemaking, which will become the basic document regulating the industry and supporting Russian producers.
The bill stipulates that Russian wine must be produced 100% from grapes grown in the country. The document introduces mandatory declaration of grape harvest.
The bill establishes technological rules of production, requirements for raw materials, materials and even labels, which should not mislead the consumer, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Standards are being introduced defining which wine products are recognized as falsified, poor quality and counterfeit. A ban is established on the production and circulation of such products.
“The creation of a viticulture and winemaking industry will play a serious role in the development of the country’s economy - through new jobs, import substitution and additional income to the budgets of the regions - Krasnodar, Crimea, Sevastopol, Rostov region, Dagestan, Stavropol, Volgograd and Astrakhan,” said speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
