Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said that Western countries, in her opinion, should be prepared for possible “Russian aggression” and its alleged invasion of Lithuania, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The politician expressed this point of view in an interview with the German magazine Spiegel.
The danger of such actions by Moscow, according to the Lithuanian leader, is “great,” but only if Western countries “do not constantly defend themselves.” “If we show that we can and want to defend ourselves, no one will attack us,” Grybauskaite is sure.
“We must be prepared: mentally, politically, technologically, heart and soul [for this invasion],” she added, also noting that “Russian troops on the border with the Baltics and Poland are ten times stronger than NATO troops.” “But these are more than just numbers. We are talking about the duty and desire to defend ourselves,” the president noted, emphasizing that if Lithuanians and their partners support such a position, there is no reason to believe that someone can illegally occupy the territory of Lithuania.
This is not the first time that Vilnius has announced that Russia is preparing an attack on the Baltic countries. Thus, in September last year, the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense Raimundas Karoblis reported that during the Belarusian-Russian tactical exercises “West 2017”, Russia, according to him, allegedly practiced options for attacking the Baltic countries.
