Irkutsk communist governor fights Western sanctions

Governor of the Irkutsk Region Sergei Levchenko (one of the few heads of constituent entities of the Russian Federation elected from the Communist Party) took part in the launch ceremony of a new workshop of the Bolshoi Ust-Ilimsk cardboard plant.

The enterprise increased the output of commercial products, while introducing environmental technologies that reduce the harmful impact on the environment.

“It seems important to me that the head of the region, Sergei Levchenko, is initiating large construction projects today. This is a serious signal. A signal that indicates that the region continues to develop dynamically, despite the economic crisis in which the country is still experiencing. We know very well that today any major construction project is an event, because resources are very limited,” said political scientist Sergei Zhuravsky in an interview with the National Expert publication.

“The opening of new production facilities and the development of the regional economy is especially important in the context of ongoing sanctions pressure on Russia. The investments that domestic liberals love to talk about should be sought not in the West, but within the country. The development of timber processing on new environmentally oriented principles, demonstrated by the Irkutsk region, is a striking example of this approach. One can only wish good luck to Governor Sergei Levchenko, who demonstrates a responsible approach to state planning in a market economy using the example of one region,” noted political scientist Oleg Bondarenko.
