Hysteria in Lithuania: we will leave Interpol if it is headed by a Russian

Lithuania will oppose the election of Russian representative Alexander Prokopchuk as head of the international police organization Interpol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced this today, Delfi reports.

According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, Eimutis Misyunas, if the current vice-president of Interpol, Alexander Prokopchuk, wins the elections, “Interpol will become a politicized instrument of regime reprisals.”

If Russian representative Alexander Prokopchuk is elected head of Interpol, Lithuania will be forced to consider the possibility of leaving this organization, the country's parliament said.

“If Prokopchuk is elected head of Interpol, then Lithuania, together with other democratic countries, will have to immediately consider the possibility of leaving this organization,” says the resolution adopted on Tuesday by the Lithuanian Seimas.

88 deputies voted for this resolution, not a single one voted against, and seven abstained.
