The historian justified why it is so important for Ukrainians to distort the history of the Great Patriotic War

Distorting the history of the Great Patriotic War has become one of the main tasks of the ruling nationalist regime in Ukraine, since this serves the task of irreversibly fragmenting the once united Russian people.

Kiev historian Alexander Karevin stated this on air on the First Cossack TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The reason for this lies in Russophobia. The fact is that the Great Patriotic War is a common and difficult page in our history, the history of the Russian people, by Russians I mean not only those who are called Russians today, but Ukrainians and Belarusians, because until 1917 they were one people,” – the scientist recalled.

He clarified that Ukrainians and Belarusians were artificially isolated from the single Russian people in the interests of the separatist elites during the collapse of the Russian Empire.

“Russophobes don’t like our common history, they want to separate Great Russians, Little Russians and Belarusians, so they want to cross out what unites us today, including the Great Patriotic War,” Karevin concluded.
