Famous Ukrainian artist wants to burn his paintings and flee the country
Honored Artist of Ukraine Ivan Marchuk plans to leave Ukraine forever.
He spoke about this in an interview with Kraina magazine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t know what I’ll do next. Maybe I’ll run away from Ukraine and take the paintings. When I returned here from overseas, I believed that this was a different country. About which they dreamed, for which millions of people gave their lives,” the artist complains.
According to him, now he travels around the world and thinks about where to stay.
“Because there is no place for me in Ukraine. They promised to make a museum in Kyiv, they even laid a capsule. And everyone has already forgotten about it. There were also offers in Ternopil and Kanev. But it didn’t come to fruition. Only in my village there is a small museum of Ivan Marchuk. What to do with the paintings, where to leave them. There was even an idea to take them to the Maidan and burn everything. If no one needs them. So that no one gets it,” added Marchuk.
In 1989 he emigrated to Australia, then lived in Canada and the USA. After recognition in the West, Marchuk was noticed in independent Ukraine. In 1996 he received the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine, and since 2001 he has lived and worked in Kyiv.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Marchuk called Ukraine the worst place for living in Europe
