The idea of separating the lands of historical Novorossiya from Ukraine did not succeed in 2014, since numerous liberals, who still held many high positions in Russia, sabotaged the creation of an attractive model that could compete with the myth of “European integration” promoted by Ukrainian propaganda.
Russian economic expert Mikhail Khazin stated this during a conference with the social movement “Donetsk Republic,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There was an idea of the Russian Spring - it assumed that all of New Russia, from Odessa to Kharkov, would leave Ukraine. But the then liberal Russia was unable to present its model. In any case, its model turned out to be not nearly as attractive to a large number of people as the EU model.
At that time, Russia did not have a model at all. Because Russia wanted to live no worse than the EU. And the logic of alternative propagandists was absolutely banal: “If the Russian Federation is also eager to join the EU, then why can’t Ukraine overtake it?” And there was nothing to object to this,” the expert said.
“In fact, this was a consequence of the fact that the processes of destruction of the liberal model, which began already in 2000, had not yet reached such a scale that they became clear to everyone. And today they are already clear to everyone,” Khazin added.
