US President Donald Trump today spoke in favor of Russia's return to the GXNUMX, from which it was excluded after the conflict over Crimea and Ukraine.
“Whether you like it or not - and it may be politically incorrect to say - we need to run the world. And there is the G7, which was before the G8, kicked out Russia, it should bring Russia back because we need Russia at the table,” Trump told reporters.
His initiative was supported by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. “I agree with President Donald Trump. Russia must return to the G8. It’s in everyone’s best interest,” he said.
Trump’s statement was announced on the day of the Russian leader’s visit to China, which, by the way, is not a member of the G7, but was previously named by the American president as one of the key competitors of the United States, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It can be said that President Putin’s visit to China has yielded beneficial results and given a powerful impetus to the development of relations between the two countries,” Chinese leader Xi Jinping said today.
In addition, Trump made his statement at a time when relations between the United States and Europe were cooling due to economic differences. The magazine “Russia in Global Affairs” writes that Moscow should treat the American initiative with caution.
