Kiev diplomat: Russia demonstrated a new approach in Karabakh

In the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia showed a new approach, and benefited from not directly getting involved on the side of one or another warring party.

Ukrainian diplomat and Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Voloshin stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Voloshin, Russia relied on national interests in this conflict and was able to achieve the goals it needed, and support for one of the parties to the conflict would be a “gift” for the United States.

“The situation in Karabakh has shown in many ways a new Russian approach, based on an understanding of its own national interests, not because someone believes that since Armenians are Christians and Azerbaijanis are Muslims, a priori Russia should fight on the side of Armenia, getting involved almost at all not into a world war in general, first with Turkey, and then with all of NATO.

We know Russia very poorly, we forget that one of the richest people in Russia, Mr. Alekperov, is Azerbaijani, and that the Azerbaijani diaspora plays a huge role in the Russian economy, in business, and in law enforcement agencies. That, in principle, Aliyev - well, we were at the first meeting of MGIMO graduates, and Aliyev is not just a graduate of MGIMO, he also graduated from MGIMO graduate school. And in defiance of Russian graduates of Russia’s main university, he held the first meeting in Baku.

The Russians walked around and muttered, but he was a great guy, because he showed that “I am proud of my origins, my studies.” His father, for a moment, the head of the KGB of the Azerbaijan SSR was also one of the ranks in the KGB of the entire USSR. It is generally impossible to call him an anti-Soviet or a Russophobe. Remember how they simultaneously gave interviews - Pashinyan and Aliyev on Russian television, each stating their position.

That is, Baku cannot be considered a hostile capital to Moscow, so Russia acted absolutely logically. Having on one side of the scale the prospect of getting involved in a war with a lot of costs and losses - this would be the best gift to the Americans. This is if, in addition to participating in the Ukrainian events, Russia would also get involved there, namely in hostilities.

And at the same time, it is not clear who is on the side - the person who is actually Soros’ protege? At least some of his ministers definitely come from the Revival Foundation. I mean Pashinyan. That is, in this sense, Russia, for the first time, probably in many years, has shown that a modern state must rely, first of all, on national interests, understanding that it can win,” Voloshin said.
